The accessories for the Orbitalum TX 38P head are components that ensure reliable centering, fixation, and electrode support during orbital TIG welding of tube-to-tubesheet joints. These parts are necessary for proper operation, weld stability, and system longevity.
The main accessories include:
Clamping segments
Mounting mandrel (arbor)
Spring sleeves
Electrode support (tungsten support)
These components must be ordered separately (they are not included in the basic TX 38P kit).
1. Clamping Segments (Clamping Segments) TX 38P
Description
Designed for use with the Type B arbor (mounting mandrel).
One "pair" of segments (i.e., 2 segments) constitutes one set for a specific pipe Inner Diameter (ID) range.
Several types/sizes of segments are available depending on the pipe diameter, for example: Type B1 (13.8−16.8 mm), B2 (16.6−19.6 mm), B3 (19.4−22.4 mm), B4 (22.2−25.2 mm), B5 (25−28 mm), etc.
Purpose
Fixation and centering of the pipe in the TX 38P head before welding—ensuring mechanical stability, which is critical for high-quality joints.
Modularity: Segments of different sizes allow the head to be adapted to various pipe diameters without changing the entire mandrel.
2. Mounting Mandrel (Mounting Mandrel/Arbor)
The mounting mandrel (arbor/mandrel) is the base element onto which the clamping segments and spring sleeves are installed.
It performs the function of centering the entire welding assembly relative to the axis of the tube-to-tubesheet joint.
It features an insulation sleeve and a clamping cone—for safe and reliable contact.
Ensures correct and stable positioning of all fixation elements (segments, sleeves) during welding.
Flexible Solution: Allows one arbor to be used with different sets of segments that fit various pipe diameters.
3. Spring Sleeves (Spring Sleeves) TX 38P
Sleeves are manufactured for the TX 38P and fit Type A arbors.
Several standard sizes of sleeves exist, corresponding to different pipe Inner Diameters (ID):
Type A1: 10.0−11.3 mm
Type A2: 11.0−12.7 mm
Type A3: 12.5−14.0 mm
Code and weight example: Sleeve A1 — Code 830 020 022, weight approximately 0.030 kg.
Sleeves serve for precision centering of the arbor inside the pipe: the spring mechanism compensates for small deviations.
Provide rigid yet elastic fixation, which is important for forming a stable joint without excessive mechanical stress.
4. Electrode Support (Tungsten Support/Electrode Support) TX 38P
This is a special holder for the tungsten electrode, compatible with the TX 38P head.
Version: full kit, for a 2.4 mm electrode.
Part number: 830 013 010 for the 2.4 mm holder.
Ensures a stable mechanical position of the electrode during welding.
Prevents uneven wear or slippage of the electrode, which could impair the quality of the arc and the weld seam.
Essential for accurate setup, especially when working with thin-walled pipes where electrode positioning is critical.
Recommendations for Selection and Use
Always select segments that exactly match the inner diameter of the pipes you will be working with—this guarantees correct centering and fixation.
Spring sleeves must also be matched to the pipe diameter: an ill-fitting size can lead to play or excessive compression.
Select the electrode holder according to the diameter of the tungsten electrode—this is most often 2.4 mm for the TX 38P, but check the specification.
For series production or frequent pipe changes: secure a stock of segments and sleeves for different sizes to quickly reconfigure the head.
After replacing segments or sleeves, it is recommended to verify the centering before starting welding to avoid weld defects.
